Menhirs, dolmens and tumuli are prehistoric monuments that embody and commemorate Neolithic societies from 7,000 years ago.
The Morbihan megaliths are among the oldest monumental architecture known to humankind, bearing witness to the first organised human societies – and to their intelligence and know-how. This dense patchwork of so many different megalithic monuments recalls a very distant era in the history of humankind, and is absolutely unique.
The “Paysages de mégalithiques de Carnac et du Sud Morbihan” association was formed in 2012, and brings together 26 municipalities. It seeks to increase knowledge of this outstanding heritage and ensure its preservation and promotion, as well as organising initiatives to encourage the public to come and visit or revisit this legacy, helping it to be shared and passed on.
